The AVV Southeast team conducted two significant events over the last week of April.
On April 28, at the Armed Forces Brewery in Norfolk, AVV hosted a Veteran Forum and fundraiser with special guest speakers including Lt Gov Winsome Sears, U.S. Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, and Va. State AG, Jason Miyares. Commissioner of Veteran Services Chuck Zingler helped conduct the forum along with AVV member, Michael Schoelwer. Va Senator Bill DeSteph and Va Delegate Anne Ferrell Tata also presented. Veterans asked questions and offered perspectives. The AVV team is compiling issues and setting priorities for future advocacy and education activities.
On April 30, AVV assisted Lt Gov Sears in conducting her own Veteran forum at the VFW hall in Norfolk. AVV briefed a compilation of Veteran concerns to an audience including the Lt Governor and fellow Veterans. Follow up work to further define housing and other community concerns are planned.
